UHAI EASHRI’s research informs our funding priorities. We have undertaken landscape analyses of Kenya and Uganda (between 2012 and 2014), and of Burundi, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania (between 2015 and 2016) towards exploring the lived realities of the LGBTI and sex worker communities across Eastern Africa.

This set of four studies were supported by a partnership with COC-Nederland as part of the Bridging the Gaps–a unique programme addressing health and human rights challenges faced by sex workers, people who use drugs and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. These studies include a needs assessment of the movements, and identify organising challenges and opportunities.

In 2017, UHAI published a similar landscape analysis of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
