Faith-Based Efforts in East Africa to Combat Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
The Arcus Foundation (Arcus) initiated this report with the purpose of assessing, mapping, and analyzing the landscape of faith-based initiatives in East Africa concerning SOGIESC (sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics) human rights. The primary objective of this undertaking was to pinpoint specific requirements and potential avenues for transformation in alignment with Arcus’ three strategic goals: 1) enhancing safety and reducing violence against LGBTQ communities; 2) bolstering policy protections; and 3) fostering increased acceptance and inclusion.
