Where is the money for Black feminist movements?

Black Feminist Fund

When the Black Feminist Fund was initiated, it was with the understanding that Black feminist movements worldwide were underfunded and largely ignored by philanthropic organizations. This insight stemmed from the experiences of the founders as Black women and activists within philanthropy, as well as from the stories of Black women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals in their communities.

Awa Fall Diop, Cynthia Eyakuze, Maie Panaga Babker, Yannia Sofía Garzón Valencia, and Timiebi Souza-Okpofabri, five Black feminists from around the world, collaborated to produce the report “Where is The Money for Black Feminist Movements?” This report is more than just a document; it is a call to action that emerged from a year-long process of discovery and dialogue. It reflects their collective experiences, emotions, and resistance, using facts and data to tell the story of a powerful yet neglected movement. The report highlights issues of theory and practice being appropriated and commodified, and it celebrates the diverse and vibrant nature of Black feminisms.
