Fund Our Futures Campaign
Amid rising anti-rights backlash and dramatic shifts in the philanthropic and development assistance landscape, the Fund Our Futures campaign will raise $150 million in new funding for global LGBTI movements.
To date, 28 funders have committed $100 million to Fund Our Futures.
Across the globe, LGBTI communities are facing an unprecedented wave of attacks, orchestrated by anti-gender and anti-rights movements that seek to roll back human rights and undermine democracy for all.
LGBTI movements are on the frontlines of struggles to protect our fundamental freedoms. But the funding landscape is changing dramatically.
In a time when progressive funding is needed more than ever, several long-standing top global LGBTI donors are likely ending or scaling back their funding programs.
The Fund Our Futures campaign is our collective response to this emerging crisis in global LGBTI funding. Together we will unleash $150 million in new funding for LGBTI movements.
At the first-ever Global LGBTI Funding Summit in November 2024, Global Philanthropy Project launched the Fund Our Futures campaign to call on philanthropy and donor governments to meet this moment by making new funding commitments to global LGBTI rights.
Major new investments are needed to:
Join the Fund Our Futures Campaign
Join us in funding LGBTI rights for the future of human rights and democracy.
The Fund Our Futures campaign raises money to support global LGBTI movements. Donors pledge to increase their support for LGBTI communities, awarding funds to the recipients of their choice in any geographic location. Commitments must be new money and a minimum of six figures. Commitments can be disbursed over a three-year period (2025–2027) for philanthropy and five years (2025–2029) for governments. They can be public or anonymous.
Whether you can commit $100,000, $1M or $10M, your resources will make a meaningful difference in the lives of LGBTI people across the globe.
Committed Funders
“Around the globe, LGBTQI+ people are persecuted for daring to live and love freely. In far too many countries, they face constant threats of violence, lengthy prison sentences, and even the death penalty just for being themselves. Without gender-recognition laws, trans and intersex people encounter social stigma, discrimination, and violence. Because of our shared belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, American Jewish World Service has committed to increasing its support of LGBTQI+ movements through the Fund our Futures campaign. Together we can realize a world where everyone lives in safety and without fear.”
Robert Bank – President and CEO, American Jewish World Service
“We see the political attacks, the hate bills, and the violence against Black LGBTIQ people. We witness Black queer organizing, resistance, and joy. So for the Black Feminist Fund, it was never a question of ‘if’ we would fund LGBTIQ movements. The question has always been how can we match the bravery, how can we do justice to the urgency of this moment, and how can we honor the Black feminist worlds that Black LGBTIQ movements are building? As part of the Fund Our Futures campaign, we commit at least USD 10M to resourcing Black LGBTIQ movements globally and to doing so with Black feminist principles.”

“Money comes with power. Our responsibility as philanthropists is to get out of the way and put the interests of movements before our own. As part of the Fund Our Futures campaign, Dreilinden will invest an additional 10 million euros to scale up property purchase support for LGBTQI organizations in the Global South and East, enabling them to buy or build their own safe spaces as a key step to securing their futures. The current moment calls for donors to transfer wealth and build the economic autonomy of our movements!.”
Ise Bosch – Founder, Dreilinden gGmbH
“The Equality Fund is proud to be supporting the Fund Our Futures campaign. Today, anti-gender actors are using well-funded and organized social movements, and our response must be unified and collaborative. That’s why we are supporting frontline organizations driving change through an intersectional approach, with a bold pledge that goes beyond one-off grants to meaningful support LGBTQI+ organizations over the next three years.”

“Attacks on LGBTI people are worsening around the world and are an affront to human dignity and human rights, democratic values and democratic institutions. At the Ford Foundation, we are following the lead of our courageous, visionary partners in LGBTI communities as we work to eliminate inequality and support inclusion for all. Thank you to the Global Philanthropy Project for their vision and leadership of the Fund Our Futures campaign, which we are proud to support.”
Martín Abregu – Vice President of International Programs, Ford Foundation
“We believe in the power of partnerships to catalyze transformative change. Through our support to the Fund Our Futures campaign, we aspire to support our partners in the global LGBTQI movement in their defense of dignity and rights. Freedom is a costly pursuit, and true change demands years of investment and commitment. We all have a role to play in building a more inclusive and equitable world.”
Doug Griffiths – President, Oak Foundation
“We believe in the power of LGBTIQ-led organizations. When well-resourced, they are havens of hope, belonging and safety for their communities while they simultaneously work towards the full realization of health and human rights. We are proud to join the Fund our Futures campaign; together we’ll prove that love is stronger than hate.”
Meg French – Executive Director, Stephen Lewis Foundation
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a fundraising campaign for the Global Philanthropy Project (GPP)?
This campaign is not a fundraising effort for GPP. Fund Our Futures seeks to mobilize financial commitments for global LGBTI movements.
Has a new fund been created?
No new fund has been created. Fund Our Futures is a pledging campaign that calls on donors to commit new financial resources for global LGBTI movements. Donors award new funds to the recipients of their choice.
How can my organization access new funding?
Each donor will award their financial commitments according to their own institutional priorities and processes. GPP invites donors to share grant opportunities on its website, as does Funders for LGBTQ Issues via its QNotes newsletter. GPP also maintains a reference list with links and information about a wide range of LGBTI-inclusive international donors and a reference list of global LGBTI education funding resources.
What does it mean to make a commitment?
By making a commitment, funders pledge to spend new resources focused on LGBTI communities over a three-year period (2025-2027) for foundations, or a five-year period (2025-2029) for governments.
What do you mean by “new money”?
Commitments must represent new and previously unallocated resources for LGBTI communities.
New resources can be:
- a one-time increase via reserve or discretionary funds
- a new line of funding for a new strategy
- an increase in LGBTI grantmaking levels compared to past years
- new dedicated resource mobilization by a public foundation, feminist fund, or NGO intermediary.
Will the commitments address documented funding gaps in the field?
The goal of Fund Our Futures is to secure new funding for global LGBTI movements, in response to threats in the philanthropic and development assistance landscape.
In this campaign, each funder is enabled to set their own priorities and determine how their new commitment will be disbursed, with geographic, population, and other focus determined by their existing institutional commitments.
While each funder decides how they will spend their newly pledged resources, GPP will continue our work to advocate for funding equity, including dedicated resourcing for trans, intersex, and LBQ movements and shifting power and decision-making to the Global South and East.
How are commitments being tracked?
GPP will track commitments via the Global Resources Report, which collects and analyzes data on global funding for LGBTI issues every two years. GPP will ask funders to indicate which of their reported grants are part of their commitment.
