Purposeful and GPP hosted a webinar titled Funder Learning: LGBTQI+ Youth Organising. During the session, Purposeful shared key findings from their research report LGBTQI+ Youth Organising in a World on Fire: Strategies from the Frontlines. The webinar explored the current landscape, highlighted bold strategies for support, and examined what it truly means to be a political funder.

Dr. Ramatu Bangura is the Co-CEO of Purposeful a global funder and girls’ movement hub headquartered in Sierra Leone. She is also the Founding Director of the Children’s Rights Innovation Fund, a global participatory funder and donor learning organisation that resources youth movements. For close to three decades, she has led organising, advocacy, and research efforts to advance the rights, leadership, and safety of adolescent girls and young people worldwide.

A Moroccan trans and non-binary SOGIESC consultant and activist actively involved in building movements for trans communities in the MENA region, and serving as the regional manager of Transat, the first trans-led organisation in the region. They co-initiated Nassawiyat, a pioneering organisation for LBTQI+ women and non-binary individuals in Morocco, and have held key leadership roles with Pan Africa ILGA as Francophone Coordinator, GNP+ as Morocco Country Focal Point, the African Trans Network (ATN) as a Steering Committee Member, and FRIDA (The Young Feminist Fund) as an Advisor representing SWANA.

The co-founder of Galería-Taller Gata Azul, a meeting space through art and anthropology for women, children, and dissenting individuals, Liliana is of Chichimeca origin and belonging to the community of San Juan de la Laguna, in the municipality of Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico. Liliana is an anthropologist using the tools of this discipline to understand, recognise, and work on the sociocultural issues and address them from a community and gender perspective.

A queer anti-colonial activist from Palestine, Haneen co-founded and was the previous director of the Palestinian national LGBTQ organisation alQaws between 2001 and 2020 working across colonised Palestine, including the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and 48’ areas. She has been involved in different anti-pinkwashing campaigns globally through collectives like Palestinian Queers for BDS, Pinkwatching Israel, and others, and aside from her lead researcher role on this Purposeful report, she has published several articles about the state of queer organising in colonised Palestine, the hegemony of Western queer organising, and many more. Currently, Haneen is leading the Queer Palestinian Archive initiative.

A Zimbabwean SOGIESC and feminist consultant, storyteller, and researcher with over six years of experience in women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ safety, and intersectional justice. Her work with Feminist Voices Zimbabwe spans Southern Africa, and global movements with a focus on VAWG, SRHR, queer rights, law and policy, community care, and movement building. She brings a deep commitment to participatory and decolonial methods, centring the lived experiences of marginalised communities.

Ezra Berkley Nepon is the Deputy Director of Global Philanthropy Project and the primary author of the Global Resources Report. Ezra joined the GPP staff in 2015, having previously served as Director of Grassroots Fundraising for Sylvia Rivera Law Project and the Development Coordinator for William Way LGBT Community Center, and co-authored reports including “Who Decides: How Participatory Grantmaking Benefits Donors, Communities, and Movements” with The Lafayette Practice. Ezra is the author of two books – most recently Dazzle Camouflage: Spectacular Theatrical Strategies for Resistance. Ezra received an M.A. Degree from Goddard College in Transformative Language Arts.

Caroline is the Executive Director of Initiative Sankofa d’Afrique de l’Ouest (ISDAO), an activist-led fund dedicated to strengthening and supporting a West African movement for gender diversity and sexual rights. She is a queer, bilingual (English/French) African feminist of Ivorian and African-American heritage, and has 20+ years of diverse professional experiences in philanthropy, human rights activism, social justice and education, including 8 years in feminist and human rights centred-philanthropy at American Jewish World Service and Global Fund for Women.

A feminist activist, storyteller, and strategist from Togo, Rosaline is the Francophone Countries Regional Lead at Purposeful, a feminist hub for girls, where she supports young feminist groups through grantmaking, political education, and movement-building, particularly across Francophone West and Central Africa. She is also a member of Les Négresses Féministes, a collective committed to dismantling patriarchal systems, supporting and protecting feminist activists, especially online.
